How much does it cost to play Petanque?

We usually allow 'first timers' 3 free sessions at the club where we will teach you the game and you can use the clubs boules.

After 3 sessions we hope that you have enjoyed yourself so much you will be keen to join the club.

Membership per year is $25 (from June to June) if you join us during the year but not in June we will adjust the fee down to suit the remaining months. Renewal is in June.

Pensioner discount per year $20

If you want to purchase boules talk to fellow club members for advice and we will point you in the right direction in buying a set for your game and hand size. A good set of 3 boules is about $100 - $300. They will last you a lifetime. Avoid buying the cheap ones made in China as they will not last and usually do not come in sets of 3 which is important to know. We will guide you when you are ready to buy a set of good boules. See 'Boules' webpage.

The Capital Petanque Club is an affiliated club with the (PFA) Petanque Federation of Australia. You may join and be a licensed player with the PFA if you are a member of the Capital petanque Club. The fee for joining the PFA is $35 per year. The PFA encourages all players to be licensed players as it covers all insurances while playing the game and allows players to play in PFA sanctioned tournaments. You can check the finer points of licensing and it's advantages by checking the PFA website. http://petanquefederationaustralia.com/cms

My personal opinion for what it is worth is as follows.

If you are strictly a casual player and you do not intend to play in tournaments then I think having a PFA license is questionable. If however you think you will want to participate in tournaments and travel interstate to do so and represent the club than it is essential you obtain a current PFA license through the Capital Petanque Club. As an affiliated club we can do this for you and obtain your Petanque player license.

Petanque............

a simple game that can be enjoyed by everyone.

It takes only minutes to learn to play.

No expensive equipment, just 3 boules and you are ready to play.

A game but also a sport.

You don't have to be a supreme athlete to play Petanque well.

A social game where players become friends.

A family game where Mum and Dad can play with the kids.

Hours of fun.

A very pleasant pastime.

You can play all year round.

Expensive? not at all.

If you play it as a sport it can be challenging and demanding requiring skill, determination and perseverence.

It's always about having fun.

Some would say that playing Petanque with a glass of wine in one hand while throwing a boule with the other is regarded as good form..........
