 The Capital Petanque Club playes at the;

The gravel Basketball Courts at the Yarralumla Oval at the end of Hooker Street.

At the end of Hooker Street you will see an access driveway leading to the Yarralumla Oval carparking area. Drive in and you will see next to the carparking area two gravel basketball courts and this is where we play. We like to call it the 'Bouledrome' for want of a better name. The courts have been abandoned for basketball use and the gravel surface lends itself perfectly for our game.

The club has key access to the toilets (male and female) and a storeroom next to the basketball courts located in a green painted building right next to the oval. You cannot miss it.

Our playing area measures approx. 35m x 35m and consists of compacted crushed gravel mixed with sand. The Colour is beige gravel ranging from 5 - 10mm guage. There is a small fall across the 35m width of the court but minimal maybe 150mm. There are a few dips and bumps with some spots having more sand and others more gravel content. Playing conditions vary with rain and dry periods. Several experienced players have given the site the 'thumbs up'.

At a recent tournament we had 8 No. (16m x 4m) size courts roped out with space for probably another 4 courts possible.

Plenty of space.

The courts are surrounded by a grassed area with a large shady tree on one side plus carparking right next to courts on the other side. The third side is the oval proper and the fourth side is a classroon building set back from the courts.

All in all a great place to play Petanque.

Petanque............

a simple game that can be enjoyed by everyone.

It takes only minutes to learn to play.

No expensive equipment, just 3 boules and you are ready to play.

A game but also a sport.

You don't have to be a supreme athlete to play Petanque well.

A social game where players become friends.

A family game where Mum and Dad can play with the kids.

Hours of fun.

A very pleasant pastime.

You can play all year round.

Expensive? not at all.

If you play it as a sport it can be challenging and demanding requiring skill, determination and perseverence.

It's always about having fun.

Some would say that playing Petanque with a glass of wine in one hand while throwing a boule with the other is regarded as good form..........
